What is a Kei truck or van?
Features:
It is a right hand drive utility vehicle used in Japan. They are used for dozens of purposes.
1. Inline 3 or 4 cylinder 550cc or 660cc engines, use regular gasoline
2. 4 wheel drive (with the exception of a few specialty vehicles)
3. Standard 4-5 or 6 speeds...some have Automatic transmissions
4. Some have Power Steering and or Air Conditioning
5. All have head lights, tail lights, turn and marker lights, heaters, windshield wiper/washers, emergency flashers, horn and mirrors, park brake
6. Disk front and drum rear brakes
7. Transfer case options very by manufacturor. From hi-low range 4 wheel drive to On-demand. On demand and 4 high only are equipted with an Extra Low gear for low speed crawling. Some have axle engage switches.

Where can I drive a Kei?
States very.... South Dakota licenses them as a ATV and thus can be driven on all but the interstates. we even use them as a rural mail delivery vehicles. I have heard some states license them for all road use and some do not allow them on the roads unless as a farm equipment with a slow moving vehicle triangle.
How big is a Kei?
About 2/3 the length and 3/4 the width of a Dodge Dakota pickup.
The pickup box is approximately 52" wide by 76" long. The wheel wells are under the box so the box is flat inside. All standard box pickups have sides and end gate that fold down or comes off to make a flat bed. Some dump body models have solid sides and the end gate may swing out from the top or drop down.
What kind of milage can I get from a Kei?
Everybody's driving style and use is different but some have gotten up to 50 mpg.
